MUSEUMS
Provincetown wouldn't be what it is today if it wasn't for the artists who discovered the natural beauty and light of the area. There are a number of fine galleries in town, mainly on Commercial St but also on Bradford St. To get a feel for the wealth of what is on offer you really should simply stroll the length of the town (remember, it's only three miles long).

Dedicated in 1910 to commemorate the first landing of the Pilgrims in Provincetown on November 21, 1620, the Pilgrim Monument is the tallest granite structure in the United States (252 feet). The panoramic views from the top of the Monument are truly spectacular and the ramped walkway eliminates all excuses for not making the climb. Well, most of them!
The Provincetown Museum
This museum features exhibits on the Pilgrims, maritime history, and the early days of modern American theater in Provincetown with Eugene O'Neill and the Provincetown Players.

The Bas Relief
Located at the base of the Monument on Bradford St. in the center of town, this famous bronze relief depicts the signing of the Mayflower Compact by the pilgrims in 1620. The pilgrims made their first landfall in Provincetown. They sailed to Plymouth afterwards! Here they completed their plans for governance and wrote and signed the famous Mayfair Compact. The Compact formed the basis for the Constitution, as we know it today.
Other Cape Cod Galleries and Antiques
If "antiquing" is your thing, then the Cape offers a veritable treasure trove. Travel down Route 6 and visit Truro, Wellfleet, Orleans, Brewster, Dennis, and Chatham. They all have a wealth of fine art galleries and antique stores just waiting for you to browse. Route 6A between Brewster and Dennis also features some really interesting pottery galleries.
